Description

Here is an amazing commission from John featuring Eppy Thatcher and Pope Innocent XLII Tujiro.

From John - "I added in a hint of the cathedral as a design background element--the characters are so complex here that I wanted to keep them the focus. The theme here was an idea to link Tujiro's constant and eternal battle with Grendel by initially basing it on the Panders' cover to #7 with Christine fighting 1980's Kabuki Tujiro, flipping it and having it be Eppy fighting 2350's/24th century Pope Innocent Tujiro--and the piece grew into it's own thing from there. I really enjoyed working on this, and this fall marks the 35th anniversary of when first started work on the series!"

I love how much thought John put into this commission and I think it absolutely shows in the finished piece. Totally EPIC piece.

Having this color over texture paper art in a full 11" x 17" is a new and impressive feat by JKS3!

So much of this is epic – the color contrasts, the staging (and the intent to do an homage that inspired it), the oversized Tujiro nevertheless outmatched by the Devil and his Fork. Issue 7 was my favorite Grendel cover of all time and I'm glad to see someone else appreciated it enough to reenvision it so thoughtfully. Congrats!
