Q: | Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why? |
A: | From the moment I discovered Matt Wagner's Grendel it has been a favorite of mine, particularly the War Child series. I've collected a number of pages over the years, but this is one a CAF member (Malvin Velez) was gracious enough to part with and one of the first times I reached out to inquire about a page that was not for sale. This is an amazing page from my favorite series and it was a great early experience for me on CAF |
Q: | Please tell us a little about yourself. |
A: | I'm a comics lover - I read a ton, collect comics and art, and love attending cons with my three boys. I've managed to get them into comics as well - though my youngest is by far the most invested with me. Looking at great art, reading a great new book or attending a con and meeting some amazing people are all great experiences that are best shared with other people. I also don't see nearly enough kids out at cons - so I consider is a responsibility to keep the younger generation involved. |
Q: | How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start? |
A: | I've been collecting for over twenty years, but have really gotten more dedicated in the last three years or so. I think my first foray into art came about in the late nineties in discovering some original art on Ebay while looking for comics. From that point forward I've collected art and comics from series that I really enjoy. I prefer art from the original creators of characters and primarily independent artists - though I also have an affinity for art from artistic teams that really defined or transformed characters as well. |
Q: | How do you display/store your collection at home? |
A: | I have a small number of framed pieces, but most of my art is in Itoya Profolio binders. I prefer the ring binders with replaceable polyglass pages as they're more durable, crystal clear and easier to move art between binders when necessary. |
Q: | What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions? |
A: | I'd have to go with an original page from James O'barr's The Crow, an original page from Comico Primer 2 the first appearance of Matt Wagner's Grendel, an original from Watchmen, a Mazzucchelli page from Daredevil the Born Again storyline in issues 227-233, and a published Mignola Hellboy page |
