Illustration by Clark Ashton Smith. Signed "C.A.S." in lower right.

Clark Ashton Smith art, most likely done between 1915 and 1922. From the collection of Samuel Loveman, who showed Smith's art and poetry to H.P. Lovecraft in 1922. Soon after, Lovecraft wrote Smith what can only be described as a fan letter, kicking off a 15 year correspondence between the two that ended only with Lovecraft's death.

This one reminds me of the Witch-king of Angmar, also known as the Lord of the Nazgûl, from The Lord of the Rings. Of course, this illustration pre-dates the publication of those books by about 35 years.
