DescriptionPopeye was created by E.C. Segar and first appeared, as a minor character, in the Thimble Theatre comic strip on January 17, 1929.In early 2019, La Nona Arte association started a project to create a Golden Age volume that included several illustrations (with Golden Age characters, of course) to be commissioned to different artists... I was really lucky to get what I most desired on that list, a Popeye by Fabio Celoni!!! Being a huge fan of both Segar and Celoni, I was thrilled... and I was not wrong!!! Fabio's final piece is nothing less than stunning! He tried to be as faithful as possible to Segar's while adding his magic... and the final result is a thing of beauty! Love the overall composition, the color focus on Popeye doing what he does best, the fisticuffs, and Bluto paying the price while paying homage to so many wonderful characters from Segar's Thimble Theatre in the background (you can spot the Jeep, Poopdeck Pappy, Swee' Pea, Castor and Olive Oyl, Wimpy, King Blozo, the Sea Hag, the Goon, whiffle hen, Rough House, etc.). Huge thanks to Fabio and La Nona Arte!!! Paper size: 29.7 x 42 cm Social/Sharing |

Just brilliant! And I totally agree with you about the characters in the background: they're fantastic!

Great collection characters !! I like how background characters are in the monochrome blue. Popeye and Bluto seem to be painted in an old school style but the colors palette seems more modern.
