Untitled Personal Illustration (Mixed Media/Cover Quality) by Zu Orzu

This piece is a little different, comic art "adjacent" I suppose. A personal illustration piece done by one of my favorite modern cover artists, Zu Orzu.

I acquired this piece during a phase when I was experimenting more with my art/tastes, and I truly do get a different feeling when I am able to add a piece when it's a little bit out of the box and unique.

This mixed media piece certainly fits that description for me. I have a few other personal untitled illustrations by Zu, but they are pencil only and pretty small.

This one is essentially the same quality and approach she does for her published covers and cover quality mixed media commissions, but a piece she did for herself.

I don't have a ton of other information on the piece as it was personal to her, and I didn't pry much further, but really happy to be the owner of this one!

I wouldn't describe this piece as a little different or comic art "adjacent". Personally, I see this simply as a piece of Fine Art rather than illustration and as with most of the illustration I've seen from her, she appears to be equally adept in this milieu. It's a very lovely piece that I believe even comic hating significant others would make exceptions for!

Oh yeaaaah! I didn't even notice that! But you see? To some degree, even on a subconscious level, you felt deep down that it was a work of Fine Art. Noice!

But in all seriousness, be clear that I'm just telling you what I see, NOT what you should be seeing. That's just how I interpret the work immediately upon seeing it. Doesn't mean it CAN'T be comic art "adjacent" in your eyes. 😘
