Description

This is the cover Michael Bair completed for the Bloodshot Yearbook in 1994. The editors at Valiant opted to have another artist (Stu Suchit) complete a painted version instead for the published image. Michael recently confirmed this information for me.

Basically the same image as the published cover from the waist up, with different positioning of the legs, a different gun in the left hand, and a few other changes.

Sweet '90s Valiant image of a vigilante with a gun.
Completed on Valiant cover stock.

Huh. That's interesting. Sometimes things like this make you want to be a time-traveling fly-on-the-wall to overhear the thought process of "We need straight legs and duel-weilding of Uzi's on this cover, or it doesn't work!!!"

Yeah, weird editorial choice in my opinion. ...  especially since Bair did the pencils and inks for the entire issue. Also weird that the other artist basically used Bair's cover design and just tweaked it a bit.

The small changes really do matter and looks like he went from ready to party to ready to kick some @SS!  Also interesting to see the circle on his chest is not part of the line art..congrats on a cool.picknup!

Cool seeing it in B&W.  Particularly like the inks on the guns!  Worthy image to cover a yearbook.  Congrats, D!

Wait a minute, my love started with this cover, so sweet
But now they got this painting legs akimbo

Must've spent 35, 45 waking hours in drawing these (oh, no)
Got his badass abs packing 'round up those ribs
For this Bloodshot piece (whoa, whoa)
Put me in a jam with no payment in Valiant scene
Can't believe it (can't believe it), I'm in disbelief

This bitch got me drawin' for rent, inkin' him ripped
Uzis up the neck, hurting of my wrist
And here I am, all alone (all alone), uh
It's so cold, been so cold, they got me out here

Spreadin' legs akimbo (paintin' out the yearbook)
Singin', "How could they Suchit to me?"
(How could they do this to me?)
Oh, I thought that job belonged to only me (mhmm)
But I was wrong, 'cause it belongs
To everybody, everybody, ooh

Such a great piece. Really is surprising they opted not to use it. In the long run, makes this piece that much better and unique knowing that this is clearly the better of the two.
