Description

Another of my "alternate and unpublished covers" commissions, using rejected or otherwise unpublished All-Star Squadron cover designs, worked up using the trade dress of the *actual* cover by Bambos Georgiou. In this case, it's a cover intended for All-Star Squadron #54, based on a layout by Mike Clark, owned (and posted on Comic Art Fans) by Brian Morris, who I hope will forgive me for using it).

There's correspondence from Roy to inker Tony DeZuniga asking for some changes (adding Tarantula's web-gun and a webline going to the Trylon, which I asked Bambos to omit here in order to make it as faithful to the original layout as possible) - but the addition of Batman in the top left hand corner, and the switching of Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle for the Flash isn't mentioned in that exchange with Roy. It's possible there was a second request, or perhaps DeZuniga made those changes himself. Regardless, it alters the cover pretty substantially - I guess it's a matter of personal taste whether you prefer the printed version or this one.

With the way Georgiou draws this, the linework does resemble artwork of the time period. This brings great visual excitement that is at the upper echelon of 80's cover designs.
