Description

The whole Priest run on Black Panther was something special but the first 24 issues or so were probably the best work on the character ever. Joe Jusko, in rare interior work, jumped in for issues 6-8. It was in issue 7 that Priest unloaded one of his most significant, and in retrospect, most obvious plot clean ups - Black Panther joined the Avengers to keep an eye on him.

With that one revelation, Priest reclaimed Black Panther from decades of respectful but misguided character work. This page is a few in front of that revelation. This issue was the first in the series to feature other MCU heroes. And Priest wasted no time clearing up what we got wrong about BP's relationship with those heroes all along.

Jusko, assisted by Palmiotti, had an interesting Avengers line up to work with and he did them all justice - even that Perez designed Scarlet Witch costume. And, he did a great job with the action. Very clear storytelling of a really chaotic scene.

I won this page in a Heritage auction earlier this year.

Yeah, that revelation that BP joined the Avengers to watch 'em? So cool. I remember reading the Tower of Babel arc in JLA, when Ra's Al Ghul uses Batman's contingency methods to take down the team. I thought "Priest did that kind of thing first in BP!" :) Congrats on a sweet example from the arc!
