DescriptionI was onboard with sandman from #1, and have never got off. I was working in a comic book store and was very young... i even sported an ankh... so I am pretty happy to be able to have the best pages from the mini's in the collection now. Sure sandman 8 is pretty cool but it was bachalo's version that really defined the character... really nailed it. Thanks to my friend who let it go.Social/Sharing |

You sported an ankh? I am not fond of religious symbols but carry myself around on two ank..les.

Absolutely killer example, Brett. One and done. (Slightly chagrined to admit I recently found a photo of myself with an ankh from then too.)
Btw if you weren't aware, the dedication is to Peter David.

Gorgeous couple of pages. For me personally - my favorite Bachalo art because he made an effort to create clean and clear compositions. Not sure if that's due to Neil's script..but loved this series and his work within it. Huge congrats!

The background and foreground look like a work of love that make Death a standout in all of these panels. I can keep looking at each of the different techniques used and marvel at the work. Then you step further back and look at the entire piece and are totally and be further engrossed by the panel flow.

Beautiful two page spread. Bachalo was really doing an amazing job on this book. His Death is the version in my head when I think of her. Just fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad that you posted this because 1) It's an amazing piece of art (arguably the best page in the series) and 2) It got Melchior to admit that he used to sport an ahnk. I'm picturing him wearing one along with the trademark hat & giggling myself silly!

Dan, before the hat there was the quiff. Nuff said. 😎

Great character defining images of Death. The layout is just as amazing evoking the feel of funhouse mirrors that show us distortions of reality and allowing us to see into her plane of existance.

Oh man, how did I miss this? Love how the page is laid out, which lends a sense of impermanence and fluidity. This is peak Bachalo, as far as I'm concerned. Congrats!

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a moving two-page spread! If I understand it clearly, Death was allowed to live for a day and she truly loved it and wished it could go on forever! And then Death comes for her and reminds her that "It always ends, that's what gives it value" So Death had to experience life and then experience death in order to better understand what ordinary people feel. That's an incredibly profound thought. And Chris Bachalo's art delivers that message beautifully. His art here is so clean and so direct that there is no confusion understanding the message. Brilliant work from a great team.
