DescriptionI remember this comic when I was young. This was the cover scene. It was so bizarre. Why is Superman's head popping off? I'll have to get the comic and read it again to understand what is happening here since neither the title "Superman's Stolen Birthday", or the synopsis from the DC database isn't memorable, but that image sure is!Social/Sharing |

That's a charm of DC! It's their weird gimmick covers that got you to pick up the book and leave you hanging. Maybe it appealed to kids just learning to read and they couldn't make sense of it anyway.

I bought this and Action Comics 456, with the shark leaping out of the water biting Superman's cape for 10 cents each out of the cardboard box on the floor of a shop called The Book Nook, in my hometown. You could go in there a couple of times a week, and they'd have reader copies of books tossed in the box. Everything was a dime each. Both covers just made me laugh, and I had to get 'em. Congratulations on getting this one. It brings back fond memories for me.

I had that Action Comics issue also. The original art for the cover was actually at auction this past year. Thanks for your comment.
