Description
Very recently (March 2021) I was looking through old issues of Russ Cochran's Graphic Gallery, in particular No. 8 (1976), which was devoted solely to art by the former Disney artist, Ferdinand Horvath. Horvath's work had been totally forgotten by the time that Bruce Hamilton purchased two notebooks of the artist's inspirational sketches. Among the artwork, most of which bore little resemblance to the final appearances of Disney characters. There were only a handful of proposed designs connected with Snow White, including the two early dwarf designs which are shown in the additional image I've posted below. While one image is not a lot to go on, it struck me that the image of Grumpy by Horvath is very similar to the image of the character in this story piece and that both of these dwarf images have a similar feel as the dwarfs in my piece. I am not so convinced of the similarities that I would go so far as to claim that Horvath is certainly the artist who drew my drawing, I thought I would at least raise the possibility at this time.
