Hmmm, there seems to be more than meets the eye here. If Minimus Ambus is the former Ultra Magnus, then is Rodimus the former Rodimus Prime?

Rodimus in IDW is just...Rodimus. (formerly Hot Rod)
But Minimus Ambus is the little guy within the Ultra Magnus armor. It's revealed here that it's more of a title to be called Ultra Magnus, even though there was an 'original' many moons ago.

Okay, so Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime, who then dropped the Prime at IDW and is now simply Rodimus?

The same way Lord Havok dropped the title of "Lord" when he went back to Marvel.
Even for a blue line, this is an excessive amount of straight line and pattern ink work.
