DescriptionWhile it’s always a pleasure to commission a piece from Jesse, I love crossing paths with him at shows to flip through his portfolios. They’re filled with delightful renditions of characters that come in all shapes and sizes to fit all budgets. It’s a splendid way to add more of Jesse’s work to my collection without breaking the bank. It also adds some much-appreciated variety to the more standard 9x12s and 11x17s that dominate my portfolios. I found this particular piece while visiting with Jesse on the Thursday of this year’s NYCC. It’s the second year in a row I’ve headed down to NYC for the opening Thursday, which has given me the two-fold benefits of avoiding the weekend crowds and getting to look through Jesse’s portfolio before most everyone else. This one instantly caught my eye thanks to the splendid use of screen tones that separate Brainiac from the mechanical background of his ship. But the tiny Superman being held by the cape was the detail that really sealed the deal. It makes me smile and elevated this one to the top of the pile. Size: 6”x9” Social/Sharing |

We can all relate with Brainiac about pondering how to store the latest acquisition in his collection. Lonergan's backgrounds are so detailed and shaded in zip that the boldness in the gestural figurework is emphasized even more.

Nice piece - the Superman detail is perfect.
I picked up a great Wolverine Cyclops piece when I saw him (that I need to post!)
