Description

When Caniff decided to create Steve Canyon that left a void that needed filling for an artist on Terry and the Pirates. George Wunder was the successful heir to the Terry empire and this is part of a several weeks sequence he submitted to try out. I also have the very first one in the tryout run in this same gallery I posted some time ago. Nice dedication by Wunder too my friend John.

Really nice daily! To step into Caniff's shoes was an extremely tall order, but Wunders work is admirable. I'm not sure that there were alot of artists available that could step into the role, and maintain a Caniff style, while subtly attempting to establish his own.

He was already perfectly polished even before he started on the strip. Gorgeous work!
