Description
Holmes, the world’s first and greatest consulting detective, comes to the realization that sometimes, cerebral methodology must be supplemented by more offensive/aggressive actions... Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s master detective enjoyed a popularity that spanned generations, so it was inevitable the character made his way to the comics medium. Canadian illustrator Dan Day’s evocative work for Renegade Press calls to mind the woodcuttings that were prevalent in issues of The London Daily News from the turn of the century!

Harkening back to those Strand and Collier magazine days.  Dan Day did an incredible job.   Congrats!  Your description is spot on about the art style.

From 1987 as well, so it's vintage and fresh to when they did the book in 1986.  He gets so much of the moody feel of the series into this illustration.  it's a lot of the shadow on the wall and the foggy effect below that creates this atmosphere.
