Description

My first and last commission from Brazilian artist Iago Maia I inked in 2015 of Carol Danvers in her Ms. Marvel/Warbird outfit was a favorite of mine and it would take 6 years to handle this one, his second job I'd received, both from Michael Rankins, who returns with the rest of his 7 piece commission blitz after a short break. This one is his 76th with me.

Depending on your background this character is know by a few incarnations. From the creative source in Japan as created by Tatsuo Yoshida and studio Tatsunoko Productions in 1972 she was Jun aka the Swan, one member of the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Sandy Frank and Jameson Brewer syndicated the series on American television in 1978, in heavily edited form, as Battle of the Planets. Jun was known as Princess in the States on the team called G-Force and that's what I grew up with and fell in love with (along with Starblazers and Force Five...I was not there to enjoy Speed Racer before these) even though the later success of anime in the west didn't grab me and I'm not generally a fan. This is my first Jun/Princess or any Gatchaman/G-Force character as a commission. I finished this one as a blueline on 11"x17" Kubert 2-ply Strathmore board in markers on 9/7/21. I was so pleased with how it came out that I commissioned pal Tom Chu to digitally color it for a print on March 20, 2022.
