"Many Foes Has the Hulk" by unknown artist & Bob Almond: Blueline Commission

For this commission entry I take the title from the 1979 Incredible Hulk calendar's August entry by Keith Pollard & Tom Palmer. It started out being the 3rd commission from client Danny Kiihnl but this one was pencilled by and unknown artist with a signature we couldn't recognize. I blew the image from A4 to 11"x17" so that I could ink it in blueline on Kubert 2-ply Strathmore board but Danny asked if I could add something to the background. While it would be more work than simply adding a box or moon or what looks to be scribbling for clouds or possible a mountain or entrance of a cave, etc. I decided to add "floating heads" of his villains because those of my age grew up with that kind of cover images so this would be fun for me. (Incidentally, I had done a Hulk card sketch years ago with this kind of floating head bad guys motif but it pales to this effort due to the card size...so this felt like redemption.) I settled on 13 classic Hulk rogues (unless Bi-Beast is 14) that I pencilled and inked with my traditional marker tools. Starting from the Leader and working clockwise, we have two of his rubbery humanoids, Juggernaut, Mole Man, Rhino, M.O.D.O.K., the Missing Link, Sandman, Abomination, Bi-Beast, Crusher Creel the Absorbing Man & Zzzaxxx, give or take a Z or X. This was completed January 3, 2023.
