Description
Tom McKimson Bugs Bunny #156 Four Stories Preliminary Original Art with Notes, Sketches, and Published Comic Book Group of 11 (Gold Key, 1974). Veteran animator turned comic book artist Tom McKimson (1907 - 1998), the older brother of famous Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies animator/director Robert McKimson, produced all four stories in this issue of Bugs Bunny. Here are Tom's original preliminary layout drawings for the following stories: "The Leaping Leemas" (five pages with attached notes and detached Character Design Sheet); "Feud for Thought" with Porky Pig (seven pages plus attached notes); "An Oyster is a Pearl's Best Friend" co-starring Yosemite Sam (five pages with attached sketch and notes; and "A Trophy for Sophie," an all-star "awards" story with Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, Tweety, Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Petunia, Porky, Pepe LePew, and Foghorn Leghorn (six pages with attached notes). All four preliminaries are drawn in graphite and marker on onionskin paper measuring approximately 23.75" x 18.5", with image areas of 12" x 17.75". Each group of pages has been stapled together in the top left corner along with notes. Also included are a pair of graphite bunny sketches by writer Mark Evanier for "Feud for Thought"; a graphite sketch with Bugs and Porky and the awards from "A Trophy for Sophie" on an envelope; a "Jot-It" note for "A Trophy for Sophie"; I have a Western Publishing letter signed by editor Chase Craig; and a copy of the published comic book. All four sets of preliminaries were stored folded, and are in Fair to Good condition with handling, plus edge wear and tears.
