Description
This is a color ink and watercolor sketch of Spirit Iron-Knife and his eagle Freedom by Ryan Kelly (9x12). Ryan auctioned this piece through his eBay store. The proceeds from the sale of this piece were donated by Ryan to the family of G.I. Joe artist Jeffrey Veregge, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

I was a G.I. Joe toy collector and comic book reader in my youth, so there is some nostalgia in this piece for me. However, it was also a worthy cause, which is what most caught my attention. I've now enjoyed it for a little while, but I'm willing to let it go if there is a G.I. Joe fan out there that would be interested. So, posting this one up and listing as "Available". Until such a time though, I'll enjoying seeing Spirit and Freedom each time I flip through my portfolio.

I think that, once upon a time, Danny Hoskins would have loved having this in his collection. Really nicely done!

I did not know that Jeffery Veregge had passed away, very sad to hear as his work was poignant and a gave us a proudly unique representation of Native American culture. Fitting that this piece would be a tribute to him. Stunning figure-work; the water colors give it a natural look. Yo Joe!

Sad indeed. His "Salish Geek" style blending tribal and pop culture inspirations was such an amazing addition to the comic art medium, his unique perspective will surely be missed.

I agree. As someone who hails from the PNW as he did, his "Salish Geek" style was something I would've been proud to add to my collection; unfortunate he only worked digitally but his legacy will always live on and hopefully inspire others like him.

Spirit is such a good character and one I think is underused. This great color piece really does his character justice.
