Description

Fred Hembeck - Dateline: @!!?# circa 1970s.

A hilarious strip based on LOIS LANE #10 (1959) originally drawn by Kurt Schaffenberger and written by Mort Weisinger, it's a reenactment of the story "The Cry Baby of Metropolis". This recreation stays very true to the original comic, an outrageous story of how Lois, thinking she's getting old and Superman won't love her anymore, goes into a scientist's machine and starts aging backwards. She keeps trying to trick Superman to use his X-Ray vision which she thinks will reverse the effects, but all the while Superman knows and decides to teach her a lesson. It's a ridiculously sexist, hilarious story that you would not believe until you read the original comic which is exactly as Hembeck presents it, including the final line by Superman: "Drink up baby - or papa spank!"

I mean you can't make that terrible writing up!

It's one of those famed pieces where the hand lettering becomes part of the art with how much Hembeck has to strain to get it all in above and around the artwork.
