Description

Green Lantern #123 (Dec 79) was the first of Joe Staton�s two long stints on the title. This run of 32 issues had Hal going solo again for the first time since being teamed up with Green Arrow in issue #76, when Neal Adams and Denny O'Neil took over from John Broome and Gil Kane in 1970.

So it was understandable that DC would have Kane do the cover for #123. But Joe was the artist behind the stories that made me such a fan of the character. So every time I came across #123, it would always bother me a bit that it was a Gil Kane cover (additional image), not one by Joe. I asked Joe to do this for me earlier last year, and just had it digitally colored by the talented Rich Seetoo.

Note Hal's trail into orbit starts in Chicago, my hometown.

A great idea, an amazing pen and ink drawing by Joe Staton, and Rich Seetoo's colors are the icing on the cake!

I like how Rich colors as it would have been done in that time period despite having computers that could cater to the unrestrained.

I am lining up a number of pieces for Rich to color in the same style. I am going through a phase now where I find new joy in my collection by having bluelines of pieces colored and rotating the prints on shelves to keep my office fresh. It's more affordable than buying new art.
