Description

Here's a page from issue 1 of the 5 issue T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents series published by Deluxe Comics in 1984.

Rights to the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents were bought by John Carbonaro in 1981, but for whatever reason, publisher Dave Singer believed the group was in the public domain and started publishing this series in 1984, featuring some great art by George Perez, Cockrum, Murphy Anderson, Keith Giffen and other top artists.

Based on the front/back notes from Dave Cockrum to writer Steve Englehart, he was informed that there were rights issues with the character of Vulcan. Dave seems to have come up with the character of "China" on the fly as a replacement, and this is his first page appearance. The name/description for "China" is really dated now, but keep in mind that this was 40 years ago.

This series made it to 5 issues before Carbonaro won his lawsuit against Singer. As part of the decision, rights to this series transferred to Carbonaro, so this was able to be included as part of the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Archives series (book #7), published by DC in 2011.
