DescriptionBeing the waning days of "Mer-May" 2024, here's Cuphead's Cala Maria, one of the game's memorable bosses on Inkwell Isle Three on the boss level, "High Seas Hi-Jinx!" She's illustrated here with clever cameos by an awestruck Cuphead (top left), her electric eel (bottom left), and a continuity-hopping Patrick Star from the Spongebob Squarepants franchise!I haven't yet made it too deep into Cuphead's lore (because it can be tough but always rewarding to progress through), but I understand this is Cala Maria's first phase form, which doesn't look terribly threatening. But as the fight progresses, she receives a shock (whether forcefully or voluntarily, I'm not quite sure?) from two giant electric eels which morphs her from mermaid into a Gorgon-Siren, and her funny octopus hair locks turn into vicious serpents! Even if you've never gotten this far, the playthroughs on youtube will totally immerse you into this seemingly simple designed game to marvel at all the animation influences! This piece in turn shows how the game inspired even more fandom!
