Description

--- Donald Duck's 90th anniversary (1934-2024) ---

One of my all-time favorite Disney stories is "Sandopaper e la perla di Labuan", first published on Topolino (Mickey Mouse magazine) in 1976, a parody of Emilio Salgari's Sandokan novel "Le Tigri di Mompracem", written by Michele Gazzarri and illustrated by one of the greatest Italian Disney masters, Giovan Battista Carpi. Another story, "Le due tigri", followed years later.

This is a commission by Freccero that I picked up at Cortona Comics 2023.

A terrific piece with everything that the modern Disney probably doesn't want to see (Yanez, the crow character created by Carpi and also used in Les Miserables parody, smoking his cigar, Sandopaper with his gun and scimitar), beautifully colored by Andrea with acrylics diluted in a lot of water.
