DescriptionLatest Golden Age Team-Up Project commission - The Brave & The Bold issue #244, teaming Batman with Uncle Sam, adapted from the Ron Frenz / Joe Sinnott cover to Captain America #338, as reimagined by Bambos Georgiou.1949 - and with Wonder Woman knocked unconscious at the conclusion of the last issue, Batman stands alone against the might of Mr Atom! The giant robot raises a foot to crush him --- and then appears to reconsider, reaching down to snatch the Gotham Guardian up, holding him in a virtually-unbreakable grip as he turns and starts a slow march towards Gotham City. Pinned, Batman tries to wriggle out of Mr Atom's clutches, but to no avail - and as the robot nears the city, Gotham's civil defence force lines up to stop the attacking automaton, only to be restrained by Commissioner Gorden when he sees that Batman is in the line of fire. Batman yells down that if he has to be sacrificed to save the city, then so be it, but Gordon still hesitates - only for the uneasy stalemate to be broken by the arrival of a leaping figure: Uncle Sam! The patriotic hero faces off against Mr Atom, but the robot pays him no attention - and when Sam jumps to attack the villain, he's snatched out of mid-air and held prisoner alongside Batman! As Uncle Sam struggles to free himself, Mr Atom's grip on the Gotham Guardian eases slightly, and Batman is able to slide his batarang from his utility belt, and uses it's titanium edge to slash at the metal fingers holding him. His attack is successful, with the batarang cutting into Mr Atom's digits and severing some critical wiring, and the robot's grip weakens, allowing Batman to escape from captivity! As Batman hurls a bat-line to wrap around Mr Atom's neck and swings across to help his fellow hero, Uncle Sam is able to use his enormous strength to prise Mr Atom's fingers apart, and escapes, leaping to the ground and growing to giant size in order to confront the robot on equal terms. Seeing the threat that the now-giant Uncle Sam poses, Mr Atom grows even larger - and as he does so, Batman spots something... ... although the hole in Mr Atom's chest (caused by Wonder Woman catapulting herself through the giant robot's body in the last issue) has repaired itself, the cuts which Batman inflicted on Mr Atom's neck have not done so - and as the robot expands in size, so the slashes grow as well! Correctly theorising that the titanium edging on his batarang has somehow affected Mr Atom's ability to repair the damage, Batman races up the villain's armoured body as Uncle Sam struggles with the giant robot, reaching the hole in his neck and - with an effort - squeezes inside the robot's skin! Inside Mr Atom's mechanical head, Batman is faced wth a bewildering array of mechanical components, but is able to deduce which parts form the robot's electronic "brain", and starts to assault them. Outside, the almost 100-foot-tall Uncle Sam continues to grapple with Mr Atom --- until the robot's head starts to spark, and the giant automaton begins to topple over as Batman's sabotage takes effect! As Mr Atom falls, Batman leaps to safety, hoping to use his cape to arrest his fall - but Uncle Sam catches him, and lowers him safely to the ground as the giant robot crashes down, now inactive and defeated by the two heroes! Later, with Gotham City safe, Green Lantern and Starman are able to combine forces and use the powers of the emerald ring and gravity rod to lift the fallen robot, carrying it away to be dumped into an active volcano, where the threat of the rebuilt Mr Atom will be ended! Next issue - Batman teams up with Doc .... err, I mean, come back next time to see which hero Batman guest-stars alongside in issue #245! Social/Sharing |

Another great homage! Lots of stoytelling and full of danger for the heroes to appeal to the kid in us wanting to see how they get out of this one!
