Description

In 2012, IDW started a brand new Mars Attacks comic series to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the property. The series was written by John Layman and drawn by John McCrea. This is the cover for issue #6 which was also used again as the cover for the second TPB - Mars Attacks: On Ice.

Awesome deal from Dave Kopecki during an episode of Amateur Dueling Dealers on Comic Art Live.

I though Mars Attacks was doing an ice skating revue with this title, but it looks as serious as a war comic mixed with science fiction.  You can see the soldier's muscles tense up from the shock of the cold.  McCrea probably took inspiration from classic Sci-Fi illustrators to pack this much exaggeration of anatomy to get a rise out of the audience.

When you see the soldier in the foreground you can easily envision this as a war comic, but then you follow the beam and see who he's being shot buy and reailze this is something different. That transition is part of what drew me to this piece.
