Rainbow Duffy is a strip by Walter Hoban (of Jerry on the Job fame) that ran from roughly 1930 to 1931.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to identify when this was published.

The era was so depressing that you had to find laughter where you can. Hoban does give hope with the humor to a rather bleak outlook on life.

Dark humor similar to the topper from this period, "Dis-Continurd Stories," if you've seen that one... Not entirely "funny" funnies.
