Description

I've provided some background information on Mort Cinder, Alberto Breccia & Hector German Oesterheld's graphic storytelling triumph, in the 'Charlie's Mother' description in this same gallery.

This story, The Tomb of Lisis, introduces Noah Stellus of the University of Cambridge through his biography, which Ezra has acquired. He’s in a terrible accident as a 13-year-old that erases his memory and ostensibly kills his parents. As he grows up, he reveals ‘an astonishing intelligence’ and rapidly becomes a global authority on Egyptology by age 22. His knowledge leads him to discover the Tomb of Kofran, a high dignitary in the court of Tuth-Ank-Amon…the discovery of which leads to an obsession in uncovering the Tomb of Lisis, an obscure Princess and ancestor to Tuth-Ank-Amon. It becomes an obsession understood only by him – ‘I have to find her’ becomes his professional mantra, to the dismay of his colleagues and peers. In what seems like a bizarre twist in the story, he writes a science fiction novel about immortals who travel from planet to planet – and the film rights finally fund his search for the Tomb of Lisis. He finds the tomb and, after months of working through the numerous antechambers to the tomb…he and his expedition crew disappear after entering it. What happened? Well, Mort comes to the rescue as he reveals to Ezra that he was one of the slaves who dug the tomb for Princess Lisis four thousand years ago. They head to Egypt to get to the bottom of what happened – and that reveals that the book Noah Stellus wrote about immortals traveling the cosmos was not fiction; it was autobiography! He and Princess Lisis were among those space travelers – Stellus had used the train accident to assume human form and search for his companion. I won’t ruin the great ending to this short story, but the story’s last line – ‘Love is beautiful, eh, Ezra?’ – provides a hint.

It has so many mechanisms of science fiction and fantasy, but at the heart of it, the themes are universal and relatable.

"EL PRECIO QUE DEBIA PAGAR" How fitting!

I like how he depicts the figure on TV in the 4th panel.

Nice get! When are you going to slow down? :-)
