DescriptionLatest Golden Age Team-Up Project commission - The Brave & The Bold issue #246, teaming Batman with Hawkgirl, adapted from John Byrne's cover to Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #17, as reimagined by Bambos Georgiou.1943 - and Batman receives a briefing from G2 (Army Intelligence) about intercepted and decoded radio messages which point to a Nazi plan to sabotage a War Department research and development facility near Gotham City! Although the information is incomplete, the indications are that an Axis super-agent will be involved - one who may already have landed in the US under cover. Batman is immediately on the case, and his first call is to one of his fellow All-Star Squadron members - Shiera (Hawkgirl) Sanders - who in her civilian identity had joined the US Navy nursing corps, as seen in All-Star Comics #11. The War Department arrange, at Batman's request, to have Shiera transferred to work at the R&D facility, from where she can keep an eye on anything suspicious, while Batman ventures out into the night to see what further details he can discover from members of the Bund! A few days later, a costumed Batman scales the fences around the facility, eludes the guards (making a mental note to tell G2 about the need to increase security - if he can break in, so might a saboteur), and meets with Shiera Sanders atop of one of the chemical laboratories. Sanders reports that the facility is handling several projects aimed at helping the war effort, and that the workers are drawn not just from across the US but also include scientists who have fled the Nazis in Europe, from France, Poland, and even Germany. Wondering whether a saboteur might have infiltrated the project disguised as one of these scientists, Batman (aided by Sanders) sneaks into the facility's records office, and begins to examine them - and soon discovers a familiar face! Although his files give a different name and background, the photo of one of the scientists shows Helmut Streicher, a Nazi who Batman had encountered (alongside Green Lantern and the Flash) during the JSA's first adventure (see DC Special #29 and Secret Origins #31). Batman heads for the site of Streicher's billet at the facility, while Sanders races to her own quarters to don her Hawkgirl costume - but when she joins her fellow her, she discovers Batman searching an empty room: Streicher has vanished! Knowing this cannot bode well, the two heroes head for the main research labs, only to find them being infiltrated by Streicher, now wearing the armour of the Red Panzer (first seen in Wonder Woman #228)! Batman and Hawkgirl both launch an assault on the villain, but his strength is too great, and Batman is hurled away, forcing Hawkgirl to save him, while the Panzer smashes his way into one of the laboratories! Recovering, the heroes once more charge into the fray, and find the Red Panzer ransacking the lab - and seizing several vials of a chemical compound from a safe he has broken into. The Panzer warns Batman and Hawkgirl to stand back, as he now possesses the recreated explosive 27-QRX, the mixture which gave Roy Lincoln his amazing powers as the Human Bomb! When neither hero obeys him, the Red Panzer hurls one of the test-tubes at them - but Hawkgirl is able to intercept it just before it hits the floor and explodes! As Batman charges at the Axis villain, the Red Panzer takes a desperate step, shedding his armoured faceplate --- and drinking the vial of 27-QRX! The chemical gives the Panzer the explosive powers of the Human Bomb, and he's quick to use them, hammering his fists into the walls and bringing the laboratory crashing down! Only Hawkgirl's speed saves the day, as she snatches Batman away from falling masonry and into the open air. Any thoughts that the Red Panzer might have been trapped under the collapsed buiding are short-lived, however, as a further explosion blows the rubble apart, and the now-explosively-powered villain emerges, and threatens the heroes again. Hawkgirl holds Batman back - and the two heroes wonder what their next move can possibly be? Continued - next issue! Social/Sharing |

Great cover to put into play! It frames the situation of the confrontation and has so many word balloons that bring even more warning to the danger and dilemma.
