Description
LA DJ, Tsunami Girl has driven her motorcycle off the end of Santa Monica pier in a desperate attempt to escape the mysterious men in black who have been pursuing her. As her motorcycle sinks into the murky depths, she and her passenger, reporter Allen Poe, must swim to the surface before they drown. The scene depicted establishes the setting where the story takes place: under water off Santa Monica pier. Published by Image Comics 1999.
Tsunami Girl was a three-issue miniseries published by Image Comics in 1999. It was created and written by Mark Paniccia with covers painted by the legendary Japanese sci-fi and fantasy artist, Hajime Sorayama. The interior pages were drawn by Jason Waltrip and inked by John Waltrip, known for their work on the Robotech II the Sentinels comic. This is page 1 of issue #2 that starts the second chapter of this fantastic tale set in Los Angeles at the end of the 20th Century near the turn of the millennium.
It was drawn and inked by hand with no computer or AI help. The motorcycle is a copy of a separate drawing pasted in place. Captions and word balloons do not appear on the page because they were inserted later during the coloring process to appear in the printed issue. Ink over graphite on 12 X 17.5” Bristol board. Acquired directly from the artist and noted that this was his favorite art page of the comic. Signed on the back by the artists, John Waltrip and Jason Waltrip and has included a separate signed COA by the artists.
