DescriptionAlthough he gave the dailies in 1935, Sterrett continued on with the Sunday until 1958 when they series stopped. He started in 1913 so that was a pretty great run. Considered one of the most innovated and visually appealing strips of the 1920's with Jazz age designs and sensibilities, it proved to be a fan favorite. I always liked the cat which doesn't appear as much in this particular Sunday but gag with Maw and Paw more than make up for it. Interestingly enough Sterrett used assistants on his work but in the early years and in the last few years due to lower popularity, he did the work himself not able to afford the help. So, a late Sunday like this from '57 might be entirely his work whereas one from a decade or two before more than likely had a lot more work by assistants.Social/Sharing |
