Katzenjammer Kids 6/1/47 by Harold Knerr

In addition to being fun strips, some really interesting legal and copyright law was determined around comic strips. In particular Katzenjammer Kids and Buster Brown who were both created for a syndicate. Then they jumped ship taking their creations with them to the next paper and continued there while the original syndicate also continued their own version of the strip with a replacement artist. The original syndicate got to keep the title of the strip but not the characters who appeared on both strips. Neat stuff. Knerr took over from creator Rudolph Dirks in 1914 when he left Hearst for King Features and created Captain and the Kids which were the same characters but a different title. Dirks created the Katzenjammer Kids strip in 1897.
