DescriptionThese pages were discussed on the Comic Art Fans Update for October 31, 2024. When the neanderthal Java regains his senses after a beating, he mistakes rescuing policemen for enemies: (Captain Steiner) “I'll call for help.” (Martin gently lowers Renate to the ground.) “Luckily she only seems to have fainted. Where is Java?” (Cops approach Java.) “This must be Mystère's assistant! Maybe he's hurt.” “Mghrr....” “Aah!” “Rraahh!” “Stop, Java! Stop! That's a policeman!” “Grrrrgh!” “He's one of us, old man! He's one of us!” “Mgh! Mgh!” (Renate explains as she is loaded into the ambulance.) “They... made me stop... it was dark. I couldn't see well... and then they dragged me into the woods...” “Don't push yourself now, Renate. You need to rest.” “How is she?” “She's not seriously injured, but she is in shock.” “Too bad everyone ran away, except that pyromaniac.” “We all use rubber bullets, Mystere. And she'll be fine. Thank goodness you called me, professor. Your fears were well founded, but you were reckless. You should have waited for us to arrive.” “Those madmen were about to set her on fire. We had to intervene immediately.” “It's clear that they've been keeping an eye on the architect for some time now. As I told you, they're dangerous, and unfortunately they can strike again.” (Renate is the architect.) The spot shadows over all the faces give each character more complexity and casts an eerie atmosphere of paranoia.
