Description
Peacemaker "I love peace so much I'd kill for it" by M.D. Bright, sometimes credited as Doc Bright.

Earlier this year, the comic book world lost another one of its heroes, penciller Mark “Doc” Bright. I was saddened to hear about his passing. I always considered Bright to be one of those good, solid, professional artists, who had a clear style and effective storytelling.

I remember Mark doing the art for Green Lantern Action Weekly series. He was the artist on Emerald Dawn and Emerald Dawn II. He was also a regular on the Green Lantern series. He also did a long run on the Milestone title Icon.

I've never met M.D. Bright but back in the day I bought two Green Lantern covers off of eBay and the seller was M.D. Bright himself. That was pretty cool. Told him I was a fan and liked his work.

Peacemaker from Doc Bright, I bought this year's ago on eBay, way before the TV series. I love the odd characters of the DC Universe and I always found Peacemaker to be an interesting character (at least the way he looks). I'm still looking for a splash or cover from the 1988 series by Tod Smith. That would be cool. Couldn't pass this up.

Mark D. Bright December 27, 1955 – March 27, 2024 Thank you Mark for all the joy and entertainment you provided

For this level of work back in those days is something else!  It would count as a commission plus seeing something so complete with backgrounds and such dynamism charging forward!  Bright had great work for both Marvel and DC.  He'll be missed as people have come to appreciate artists of that era more than ever.

You're so right, Ceasar. Bright was always a really strong storyteller and could draw just about anything and make it look good. Growing up as mostly a Marvel fan, his run on Iron Man was shockingly good and as you mention, his work on Green Lantern was also strong and well received at the time. It's funny how with the passing of John Romita, we are at the tail end of the era of creators whose careers began in the 1960' (or 50's) still being with us, and suddenly it feels like we skipped the 70's and are already losing artists whose careers began during the 1980s. That's crazy....
