DescriptionI’d admired this wonderful work by Tom Kidd under his Gnemo persona for some time, so I was pleased when it became available as part of a larger deal. Titled “ Szukalski Sculpture Garden” and dated 1994, it was reproduced in Tom’s art book “Kiddology”, published by Paper Tiger in 2007.Here’s Gnemo’s description: “This is a monument to tortuous monsters that inhabit the minds of the insane. At one time revered by the upper class it is now forgotten, shunned, and neglected. It is named for the famed psychoanalyst Dr. Szukalski who funded it in an experiment that was to improve by shock therapy the mental health of the citizens of McCay City.” Kidd named many paintings after artists he admires the work of, including NC Wyeth, Howard Pyle, Maxfield Parrish, and Elizabeth Shippen Green. Szukalski Sculpture Garden is named for Stanislaw Szukalski (1893-1987), a Polish-born painter and sculptor who moved to Chicago and became part of an artistic movement called Tribe of the Horned Heart, which sought inspiration in the pagan history of Poland. Breathtaking imagination! From the fantasy elements to the classical architecture and sculptures, every level of depth has intricate details.

I've always liked this piece and considr it one of Tom Kidd's best!
