I looked at this one for awhile before scrolling down to read your description and was thinking this one has a more spontaneous, loose quality compared to the previous piece, Roses and Lilies, almost like a study or an exploration of color and form rather than a fully resolved painting. The brushwork is bold and expressive, which gives it energy, but I thought, "This one doesn’t have quite the same level of refinement and depth as the other one.". But then I read your description and realized, of course, it's a demo piece, which explains the looser, more immediate feel, since it's meant to show the process rather than achieve a polished final result. Very nice demo, no doubt!
Hard to get past that teacup. While Roses and Lilies really has a photorealism to it and is probsbly the finer painting, I love the relaxed style of this one.
