Description

No one likes a broken record and I don’t want to sound like one, so I will refrain from singing Jonathan’s praises yet again (just go read some of the descriptions from my other Wayshak pieces). I’ll just let the art speak for itself. Which, for all of you, means that this may be one of my shortest descriptions ever! LOL

This is the last of three trading card paintings that I purchased from Jonathan. Strangely enough, this one was not used. Not sure if it was rejected by the card company or self-rejected by the artist, but it’s probably my favorite of the three I have (and not just because it features my favorite comic character). It’s also the smallest of the three. But again, doesn’t bother me in the least.

Been collecting Jon’s work since 2009. Mostly personal pieces not really having anything to do with comics. So it’s been really nice to have this mini barrage (3 in a row) of actual comic book characters. Of course that doesn’t mean I appreciate the non-comic art any less. It’s Jonathan’s skill and artistry that I love. And that’s on full display every time he puts pen (or brush) to paper.

My thanks to Jonathan for his kindness, generosity, and friendship all these years.

And thanks to all who stopped by to appreciate this amazing work.

very cool Spidey piece with that perspective/camera angle! it's always interesting to wonder why certain pieces were not chosen for publication but either way as long as you love it that's all that matters! also, really appreciate seeing the prelim and the full board in the additional images - he went to town on those colors and all the little details in the cars which are presumably hundreds of feet below Spidey. congrats, awesome piece!!

The overhead Quesada style composition is cool when a painter like Way$hak fully fleshes out the anatomy in perspective.

Very cool piece.  Really digging the perspective & color.  Especailly how it goes from vivid to muted, foreground to back.  Cool stuff, congrats!

Thanks Brian!  Excellent point.  The color variance serves the dual purpose of making Spidey the visual focus AND (along with the scale of the scene below) creates a separation that adds to its sense of depth.

Man, I was blown away seeing the under drawing that you also have, but the colored version looks even better.  No need to sing further praises - Wayshak rocks.  Thanks for sharing!

Hmm, I wonder if that has anything to do with Sam and Jon being good friends (not that he's ever introduced me, LOL).

The colors look great and perfect pairing with the pencil drawing.

I'd buy a spider comic drawn by wayshak is a heartbeat. he's an incredible talent who's work hits me much the way Sam Keith did on mcp.

Very detailed.  The fingers and the webs are great.  The eyes look like they were inspired by McFarlane.  Over all, it is just a fantastic piece!

Yes, I totally get the Kieth and McFarlane influences. But I would have to say (and I should verify this with Jonathan) that the single biggest influence on this image is the wraparound cover to Sensational Spider-Man #23 by Angel Medina.  Same basic concept, pose, and setting (right down to the big hand).  But with Wayshak's own unique spin of course!
