Description
Star Wars: Darth Maul - Son Of Dathomir #3 Pg. 1
Pencils by Juan M. Frigeri
Written by Jeremy Barlow

Happy Birthday to the maker himself, George Lucas!

"Son of Dathomir, Part Three" was adapted from "Proxy War," an episode that was originally written for the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars before it got cancelled for the first time after 5 seasons (and before Disney brought it back to life years later, for a 7th and final season after a "6th" season was released from 13 episodes of "Lost Missions", but that's another story...).

However because the series was produced by George Lucas prior to the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm, it is still considered part of the official Star Wars canon, even though the majority of the Dark Horse Comics era is no longer considered so. Yeah, not sure even I fully understand, but who cares! Marvel Comics has subsequently re-printed the series since they took over the comics under Disney.

On this page/scene:

In the aftermath of the battle between the Shadow Collective and the Confederacy of Independent Systems on Ord Mantell, in which Darth Maul and Death Watch captured Count Dooku and General Grievous, the Jedi Order sends a team to Ord Mantell to investigate what happened. Jedi Master Mace Windu contacts Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, to inform him that Darth Maul was behind the battle. Windu suspects that the Galactic Republic can use this information to capture Maul and Dooku, and use their capture to end the Clone Wars.

The only thing I'll add is that the credited inker on this series is Mauro Vargas, but I've never seen any of those inked pages on blueline surface or perhaps they were inked digitally, not entirely sure. Still looking for a page from this 4 issue series with Darth Maul on it, but happy to have Palpatine and Mace Windu from this issue.

Great Page with Palpatine and Mace Windu. LOVE the top panel showing his true form of Darth Sidious to then turn around and be compassionate Sheev Palpatine. As a big Maul fan, this was a fun mini series and can not wait for the new animated show!

I've never seen an inked page from this series either. Perhaps there's a glorious pile o' pages that Mauro Vargas is sitting on still. I feel like I tried chasing him down once a few years ago and maybe he's in Ecuador, or Argentina? Anyways, I never found the direct line or rep at the time. Might need to add him back on the active hunt list.

Because you know I'm all about that Mace, 'bout that Mace, all trouble
I'm all about that Mace, 'bout that Mace, all pencil
I'm all about that Mace, 'bout that Mace, no Mauro
I'm all about that Mace, 'bout that Mace

Yeah, it's pretty clear it ain’t about Luke
Jedi can shake it, shake it like I'm supposed Windu
'Cause I got that boom, boom that artwork boys chase
And all the right junk in Maul the right pages

I see Darth Sidious (ah) workin' that photoshop (ah)
We know that Sith ain't real, come on, now, make it Juan
If you Frigeri, beauty (ah), just raise 'em up
'Cause every inch of Lucas perfect, from the bottom to the top

Yeah, my Yoda, he told me, "Frigeri about your line"
(Shoo-wop-wop, sha-ooh-wop-wop)
Sheev says, "Boys like a little more Disney to show at night"
(That Disney, Disney, uh, that Disney, booty)
And, no, I won't be no stick-figure Sith and Clone Disney Maul
(Shoo-wop-wop, sha-ooh-wop-wop)
So if that's what's you're into, then go ahead then use a bong

I really like the pencils. In the first panel it feels like Frank Quitely ghosted for him! By the way, I'm stunned to read one of your descriptions that sounds almost the way I usually sound when it comes to understanding Star Wars. Even you don't full understand? Wow!

Does this war that spanned millions of years have anything critical planned over the next... five to seven working days?
