Description

Justice by Chris Ivy in the style of the Official Marvel Handbook of the Marvel Universe, but it's the New Universe as presented in Justice issue 22 (Marvel 1988)

Picked this up from Chris Ivy. Not even he knew where it was from. It took some legwork….

I thought it had the look of a Marvel Handbook image because it’s a full body image with no background and utilizing his powers in a very head on image. I found a colored image online on a New U fan site, which convinced me that it must have been published somewhere. Further, it does have a Marvel Copyright stamp on the back, dated 1988. Eventually I discovered that this pinup was from issue 22 of Justice. The New U published Handbook type pages in the back of numerous books at this time along with backup stories, pinups, and a Soapbox style page that was New U centric.

Whew. I love Comic book archeology.

11x17 pencils and ink on bristol. There is a lot of Glue residue on the front and the back of this piece. There is no glue where the image is, but across the top front, where Chris signed, and all over the back. There is a note on the back in pencil, that is partially obscured from dark glue stains that reads “please flop this picture” which explains why the art is a mirror image of the published image.
