Black Bolt Sketch Cover by Bob Almond: Commission

First time client James Posey commissioned me at the Old School Comic Show in April asking me to pick among 3 sketch covers and while I don't remember the other two options I chose Inhumans. I wasn't sure which member of the royal family I was going to render but I finally chose Black Bolt and, while looking over his early Fantastic Four appearances, I was intrigued by his "Master Blow" power, something I didn't remember about but probably something I simply forgot about. I tried to compose the image so that there was movement as he approached a target so that his wings and the swirling Kirby Krackle (made up of manipulated, ambient electrons via his fork-like antenna so that it channels his powers in one devastating punch) would put the quake of fear into whoever was his current target. Between my loose prelim and the final product you can see I made some changes with the elements. I used Kuretake and micron markers and tested some new brush markers and used dry brush FX in black ink and titanium white acrylic paint. This is only the 2nd Black Bolt I've done in a commission since I inked Sal Velluto on an Inhumans commission back in 2005. This one was finished on 5/27/2025.
