DescriptionLatest Golden Age Team-Up Project commission - DC Comics Presents Special #1, teaming Superman with the All-Star Squadron, adapted by Bambos Georgiou from the John Buscema / Tom Palmer cover to Avengers #302.Spring 1945 - and Superman returns to Metropolis, having stopped saboteurs from destroying the Boulder Dam and crippling the US war effort by using the technology developed by one his earliest foes, the Rainmaker (as seen in World's Best Comics #1, 1941). Unaware of the capture of many of his All-Star Squadron team-mates, Clark Kent files a report at the Daily Star Offices but, after changing into his heroic identity and preparing to patrol the city, Superman is surprised by the appearance of a magical image sent by Sargon The Sorceror! Sargon's message fills Superman in on the attacks on the All-Star Squadron, including the defeat of the Blue Beetle by Kung (in the form of a rhinoceros), Wildfire falling after facing the twin threats of Night and Fog, Amazing Man being no match for Kamikaze, the Shining Knight almost winning a swordfight with Sumo The Samurai before a sneak attack from Sea Wolf distracts him just long enough for the giant Japanese villain to knock Sir Justin out -- and Sargon's message ends abruptly as Gudra's spear overwhelms his mystic abilities and the magician also falls before the assault of the Axis forces! Alarmed, Superman speeds to the Perisphere in New York, and rapidly contacts any of the members of the Squadron who are able to respond -- and is shocked to discover that only a handful of heroes are still at large! Within the hour, the Man Of Steel is joined by the speedster Quicksilver (the so-called "Laughing Robin Hood"), who reports the capture of several members of the Washington-based Freedom Fighters; the bow-and-arrow-wielding Alias The Spider, who passes on news that several members of the Seven Soldiers Of Victory have also been taken prisoner; Captain Triumph, who is aware that a number of their team-mates from the All-Star Squadron, including Air Wave, Hawkgirl and Hourman, have also fallen; and finally the Tigress, who brings no news and is viewed with some suspicion by the other heroes following her departure from the ranks of the Young All-Stars in 1942 and apparent turn to villainy (in Young All-Stars #26). Superman rallies his fellow heroes but, before they can decide on a course of action, the Perisphere is once again attacked by a group of Axis villains! Quicksilver is involved in a super-speed battle with Zyklon, while the Spider trades arrows with Usil The Archer, the Horned Owl attempts to trap the Tigress, and Sumo and Ubermensch team up to pummel Captain Triumph! Superman wades into the fight, launching an attack on Ubermensch, but as he does so, Sumo overpowers Captain Triumph, an arrow from Usil delivers a massive electric shock to Quicksilver and brings him to his knees, Zyklon captures the Tigress, and the Horned Owl knocks out the Spider! Standing alone, Superman faces off against the assembled Axis villains - but it's the arrival of a final member which marks his downfall, as the Japanese villainess Doctor Poison steps from the shadows and fires a cloud of greenish gas at the Man Of Steel from her gas-gun - a gas cloud which overcomes Superman and brings him to his knees, at which point twin blows from Sumo and Ubermensch are sufficient to knock the hero unconscious. Horned Owl congratulates Doctor Poison - the inclusion of material from a rare green meteorite had, as she'd surmised, been sufficient to overcome even the mighty Superman! Reactivating their inviso-inducers, the villains carry their captives to their hidden lair, where their fellows assist them in chaining the heroes up - and the Dragon King outlines the next stage of the Axis plan. All the heroes will be transported by U-Boat to Europe and delivered to Berlin, where the magically-powered and magically-vulnerable heroes will fall under the influence of the Spear Of Destiny and form a super-powered strike force working for the Nazis and turn the tide of the war, while the others will be killed! Although the Spectre seems to have vanished and has not been captured, the Dragon King is confident that those heroes who are their prisoners will be sufficient to achieve their aims - and nothing can now stop them! ... but the villains have failed to notice that one hero has slipped his chains - the Batman! To be continued in another Special - coming soon! Social/Sharing |

That's a superman pose if I ever saw one. Even when Quasar did it, we knew Buscema was drawing Superman.
