I'm about a week late for "Dragon's Lair Day" but the past week has been fairly eventual for the franchise, with reports about the "production hell" Netflix project finally getting a director. (Will it ever come to fruition? We can hope!) Here is a recent full-color Sketch Cover commission created by the masterful Marco Carrillo, based specifically on the "Dragon's Lair: Escape from Singe's Castle" home computer game by ReadySoft in 1990 (not to be confused with "Dragon's Lair Part II: Escape from Singe's Castle" released by Software Projects in 1987). In that game, Dirk's adventure didn't end even after slaying Singe the Dragon with the Magic Sword; he still had to escape the enchanted Castle with Princess Daphne. Complicating his plan was the continued interference of the spectral villain the manual called "The Shapeshifter" but who is more popularly known as the "Grim Reaper" in other franchise installments). Marco was able to integrate concepts from both of the game's cover art into one epic piece. He wrapped the sketch cover around an original Arcana-imprint issue of Dragon's Lair's #3 for this sketch cover but I asked him to change the numbering to issue #5 to suggest a hypothetical adventure that continues after the Arcana series.
