Another nice Ordway splash! I like how he worked in both golden age wesley dodds sandman and morpheus sandman in there.
Now I'm just drooling......
Can't have the history of DC without a genuine old school guy who knows the history inside and out. There are just a few of those guys left and maybe just Ordway as an artist who can bring that DC golden age era charm to the page.
Holy shit, bro, you REALLY scored due to that nagging collector! Another splendiferous Ordway splash, unbelievable!
Thank you, sir! Ruben, this was clearly a case of being at the right place at the right time. And having a friend alert me to the fact that Jerry was selling these pages. I would never have known otherwise because Jerry did not put them out on his table. At the end of the show on Sunday, I expressed surprise to Jerry that he hadn't sold out of these pages. He said it was because he never promoted them and was so busy with signatures and sketches that he never put them on the table. So, only folks who aksed if he had art for sale would even know.
You're welcome! That is such a wild story. But it makes sense. Those of us who are fans of his work already know that he rarely sells any of it. So even if we see him at a con, most of us are very likely goingto just say hi to him but NOT ask him if he brought any art, since he never does! This was the very definition of serendipity!
Anothre winner!
Great layout/composition on this one by Ordway
I see Jerry every year at TerrifiCon and I gave him Issue #1 of Mark Waid's "New History of the DC Universe" to sign. He didn't mention to me he had some of the pages with him. I've never seen him bring any published art with him to TerrifiCon.
I know what you mean. He usually brings some pre-done sketches and sketch covers, but never any published pages. And I never ask because I know how reluctant he is to sell his published art. This was a completely unexpected and wonderful surprise. That's why I bought 2 of them. If you can get in touch with Jerry, he still has about 8 pages left from the book.
Wonderful, Steve! What a great piece! Proving once again nothing beats meeting the artsits in person!
