Description
A lovely series of character sketches for Mark Lovell, a key character from David Wright's Carol Day daily romance comic strip. Wright based much of the Carol Day dramatis personae on friends and family. Here, his eldest son Nicky provides the model for Mark Lovell.

This piece was published in ‘David Wright’s Carol Day: Lance Hallam’, the art book reproducing the Lance Hallam storyline from Carol Day in full-size and full-color and published by Roger Clark, Guy Mills, and yours truly under the Slingsby Bros, Ink! publishing banner.

He made the character more engaging than his son with thicker eye brows and a softer jawline.  The hair is styled in such a proper manner that he must spend just as much time in front of the mirror as the ladies.

Great to see the notes as well, showing the thinking going on in the process. The loose lines and blocky shading to indicate form are also so interesting in contrast to the precision in Wright's finished work. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool to see photo ref and notes in addition to the sketches all on the same paper for this character design/process piece!
