Description
Original artwork by British illustrator William Dewer for a story published c.1900. The art is ink on card measuring approx 11 x 8.75 inches.

It seems there were a couple of British artists called William Dewer knocking around at the end of the nineteenth century. This is the William Dewer who produced illustrations for magazines such as 'The London Magazine' and various books including: 'The Dream Detective' by Sax Rohmer, 'Nobody's Girls' by Sarah Tytler, 'Secret History of Today' by Allan Upward and many others.

The artwork has penciled text at the bottom corresponding to the passage from the story it illustrated. It reads: "Zahnaha opened the door a very little way and something crept in over the threshold". I have a feeling that I did once manage to identify the book where this was used but now I don't seem to be able to find it!
