Description

At Caleb Lost's trial, the three Fates prepare to give testimony:

(Regent Uriel) “Aysha… Vivien… Chloe… The three Ladies of Destiny! Your appearance is irregular, but I cannot deny that it is a welcome twist.”

(Prince Iblis) “I share your opinion, Uriel. If the charm of the three guardians of the law can dent even your icy soul, I declare myself from this moment subjugated and vanquished. And for a smile from them, I am ready to declare your Amesha, Caleb Lost, acquitted. Take him, carry him away. I throw my smoking heart at your feet, my beautiful ladies.” (Caleb and Anyel Zant belonging to the angelic Amesha race.)

(Duke Nergal, prosecutor) “My prince, I protest! I…”

(Aysha) “Don't fret, Nergal. I don't think Prince Iblis would be satisfied with a mere smile… and neither I nor my sisters want to feel obligated to him.”

(Iblis) “Ooooh! I'm getting more and more aroused just hearing your voice, sweet raven-haired Aysha. Speak, then. Again I say: Speak! I'm impatient to hear your arguments.”

(Anyel Zant, defense counsel) “The three sisters are here to bring their testimony to the court about Nergal's intrigues against the Law of Balance.”

“This is unheard of! It's Caleb Lost who is under investigation here, not me!”

(Aysha) “But your offense is more serious, Nergal. He who brings an accusation must prove himself above suspicion.”

(Regent Uriel) “I approve. What does Prince Iblis say?”

“I approve! Whatever comes from those lips!”

(Nergal whispers to Aysha) “I advise you to remain silent. You promised…”

“Circumstances have changed, Nergal. You dared too much, and you will pay the consequences.”

I have to say that some of the legal aspects of this trial seem dubious. However the whole thing is a farce anyway. The outcome is almost irrelevant; it's mainly a ploy by Duke Nergal to occupy Caleb so that Harlan Draka is left unprotected back in Prague. In that case, the question is whether Prince Iblis is in on the plot, or whether he's being manipulated by his own underling.

Each issue (Italians call each an "album") runs through page 98. But fear not; there's more where this one came from! (i.e. my portfolio rack)

I wonder whether this legal strategy would fly on Law & Order. Maybe Ally McBeal...

At this point, the heroes will take any Ally they can get.

Nergal could be in trouble as his plot backfires.
