The Grendel disposing of an adversary with a cauldron of bats ascending from the subterranean depths...

From around 1990-93 Simon Bisley painted what must have been 100 covers that seemed to dominate the shelves of any comic book store you walked into. His acclaimed Doom Patrol run, his Terminator, Grendel and Aliens (Dark Horse) and Lobo amongst many others...

This, for me, is amongst his most striking covers and probably my favourite image of Grendel from the 4 covers he completed.

So good to have this...

Painted with sombre earth tones in acrylic, and ink on illustration paper, the image area measures 11" x 17".

There are some pencil sketches of sports cars and machinery on the reverse....
