Generations ahead of his time, Mitchell Funk creates a Fantasy, Sci-fi, Color Field photographic image before digital. Created in 1981, it was shot on 35mm Kodachrome using colored gels and double exposures. Funk takes color photography to new realms in this bold and radical composition. Clearly, there has never been an image like this before. A strange world with a solid red sky contrasts with a shimmering blue sea in the foreground. Silhouetted elements stitch the scene together and make it somehow believable, inviting the viewer to explore a landscape direct from his imagination. Photographic experimentation was a hallmark of Funk's early work and solidifies his statue as a major pioneer of color photography.
