My tribute to Al Wiseman’s cover for the very first Dennis the Mencace comic book cover from late 1953. As far as is publicly known, the original is not known to exist - so I based mine on the earliest Wiseman cover art and extrapolated backwards. Vintage light blue non-repro pencil shading indicates shadingand color areas noot trapped with a black line.
As with all my original art recreations this was created by hand with methods as close as possible to how the original was made including using vintage supplies and tools whenever available. Sable brush, dip pen, India ink and vintage non-repro blue pencil on aged board with reproduction stats and rubber cement staining, white guoache / graphic white and production marks. 13” x 19” board size.
