Wiliam Stout - Mystery Of The Wax Museum

This was a pickup at Heroescon, 2026. I wasn't able to attend, but my good friend, Rich Cirillo (make sure to check out his amazing CAF gallery) picked up three pieces for me. He sent me a video as he flipped through Stout's portfoilo and I chose a few pieces and paid Stout directly. 

This drawing is based upon a scene/still from the 1933 pre-code horror film Mystery Of The Wax Musuem, starring Lionel Atwill. It showcases the disfigured antagonist,  Ivan Igor. I'm not sure exactly what the object in the back is, as I haven't seen the film. It looks like a flying Saucer sending a beam down, but I think it might be some kind of pod/tube container. I couldn't find it pictured in any images from the movie. According to Google, apparently it is a vat, containing the hot wax to be poured on Fay Wray towards the end of hte film.  I'll search out the film to watch! It's a rare, early color film, as well. 

Ink on 8.5" x 11" toned cardstock. Drawn in 2013 and published the same year in Stout's Monsters Sketchbook Vol. 4.
